On June 30, 2023, at approximately 9:30 p.m., Fremont Police Dispatch received 9-1-1 calls regarding a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian near the intersection of Alvarado Blvd and Merganser Dr. Officers arrived on the scene and located a pedestrian suffering from major injuries. Fremont Fire Department also responded to provide emergency medical care to the pedestrian, but the pedestrian was ultimately pronounced deceased. The driver of the involved vehicle remained at the scene and has been fully cooperative with the investigation. Drug or alcohol impairment does not appear to be a factor at this time.
Fremont Police Traffic Investigators responded to the scene to assume the investigation and determine the cause of the collision. The Alameda County Coroner's Office will determine the cause of death.
This is Fremont's sixth fatal traffic collision in 2023.
