Simi Valley Police Department Fireworks Statistics 2023

The Simi Valley Police Department has compiled the 2023 July 4th holiday weekend fireworks statistics for immediate release.

To accomplish the department’s enforcement goals and zero-tolerance stance, we deployed uniformed officers beginning June 30th through July 3rd. On the July 4th holiday, we deployed extra officers with the specific mission of fireworks enforcement. Between June 30th and July 3rd, we issued seven citations (with one arrest); On July 4th, we cited 23 violators (with one arrest). During this deployment period, officers seized over 100 pounds of illegal fireworks.

In the 24 hours from July 4th at midnight until July 5th at midnight, the Simi Valley Police Department received 200 radio calls for service reference illegal fireworks. For the same timeframe in 2022, there were 293 fireworks-related calls for service, a decrease of 32%. In addition, officers preemptively contacted over a dozen residents who were reported through the fireworks hotline by neighbors and advised of the repercussions should they be found involved in illegal fireworks activity. We had no reported fireworks activity at those locations following officer contact.

There were no injuries, fires, or damage to any personal property in Simi Valley due to the illegal fireworks.  All fireworks seized were booked and turned over to the Ventura County Bomb Squad for disposal.
