- SEX OFFENDER FAILURE TO REGISTER ( E- FELONY)
ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Rivera was processed at Amsterdam Police headquarters, arraigned in front of the Honorable Judge William J. Mycek and remanded to the Montgomery County Correctional Facility on $15,000 cash bail.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On May 11th 2023 Amsterdam Police detectives received information that Daniel S. Rivera, a level 3 sex offender had moved into the City of Amsterdam from a neighboring community. Rivera is currently on parole for Rape 1st degree and was paroled from state prison on 01/13/2022. Rivera was advised by the terms of his parole the steps that needed to be completed to properly change his address as required of a level 3 sex offender by law. In the time frame as mandated by statute Rivera failed to properly register and an arrest warrant was issued by Amsterdam City court.
On July 6th 2023 Rivera turned himself in at the Amsterdam Police Department where he was processed on the above charges.
The Amsterdam Police Department was assisted by New York State Department of Corrections and Community Supervision in this investigation.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
