SUSPECT(S): Joseph Mcgee, 26-year-old Resident of Twentynine Palms

SUMMARY: On July 6, 2023, at about 12:02 p.m., a community member placed a call for service, reference a reckless driver. A motorcycle rider drove eastbound on Twentynine Palms Highway at a high rate of speed, running four stop lights.
Deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station attempted to conduct a traffic stop on the motorcycle at the intersection of Yucca Trail and Joshua Lane in the Town of Yucca Valley. The motorcycle rider failed to yield and drove eastbound on Yucca Trail, running several stop lights.
The motorcycle rider, later identifed as Jason McGee, led deputies on a 10-mile pursuit where McGee reached speeds of at least 137 miles per hour, ran multiple stop lights and stop signs, almost hit a pedestrian in Joshua Tree, and drove toward oncoming traffic on Twentynine Palms Highway.
Eventually, McGee lost control of the motorcycle and crashed near the intersection of Sunburst Avenue and Canterbury Street in the unincorporated area of Joshua Tree. McGee was taken into custody and transported to the High Desert Medical Center where he was later released. McGee did not sustain any major injuries.
McGee was booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for PC 2800.2 - Felony Reckless Evading and PC 3056 - Parole Violation.
