Cranford OEM Message: Rain with potential flash flooding.

From Cranford’s Office of Emergency Management, July 9th at 9AM:

RAIN AND POTENTIAL FLASH FLOODING

A slow-moving cold front will bring showers and thunderstorms later today, mainly from the afternoon through the overnight. The showers and thunderstorms may linger into early Monday afternoon. 

Scattered to potentially numerous areas of flash flooding likely. Small streams, rivers, and creeks could rise out of their banks. 

FLASH FLOODING - ROADS

Today, flash flooding may be present in low-lying, traditionally flood-prone roadways. Turn around, don't drown, and do not drive on flooded roads. 

Excessive runoff from heavy rainfall will cause flooding of streets and underpasses. Please keep off roads if travel isn’t essential. If your roadway floods during this type of weather event, consider moving your vehicle to higher ground. 

Barricades will being placed at flash flood locations as the need arises, but be aware of any low-lying flood-prone roadways that may not have been already identified as actively hazardous.

RESIDENTS IN FLOOD-PRONE AREAS

Residents in the most flood prone areas should take precautions and have multiple ways to receive weather alerts. The national weather service will issue flood warnings when flooding conditions are imminent. These residents should be prepared to take action should flooding occur.
