Weather Alert
WEATHER ALERT
* HIGHER THAN NORMAL RISK FOR FLOODING TODAY & TONIGHT * THREAT TIME: SUNDAY 4:00 PM - MONDAY 2:00 AM MAIN RISK OCCURS EVENING - EARLY OVERNIGHT |
While a few spotty showers/storms have developed in the area, the bulk of the activity is off to the northwest. This is where we anticipate the most significant flooding impacts to remain today and tonight, but still we will be at a higher than usual risk in the immediate area for flooding today. As activity develops this afternoon, increasing coverage into the late day/evening, rainfall rates alone will be 1-3"+/hr, quickly overwhelming resulting in roadway/poor drainage flooding. Repeated storms will amount to higher end totals in areas, which will cause sharp rises of streams and creeks with even some overspilling adding to the flooding issues. It's possible some issues are significant locally and/or linger overnight where hardest hit. While flooding remains the primary concern, a few storms can turn locally strong to severe producing locally strong winds, some hail, and even an isolated tornado isn't ruled out in the greater region.
SEVERE WEATHER | ||
Threat | Coverage | Description |
Damaging Winds | Scattered | Scattered severe storms can produce strong winds this afternoon - evening |
Hail | Minimal | Hail isn't ruled out in stronger storms, but most would be small. |
Tornadoes | Isolated | An isolated tornado risk in the broader region is possible later today. |
C-G Lightning | Numerous | Storms will produce frequent lightning today, especially with increased storm coverage later today into tonight. |
FLOODING PROBLEMS | ||
Road / Poor Drainage | Numerous | Rainfall rates of 1-2"+/hr results in enhanced threat for poor drainage/roadway flooding later today. Locally significant not out of question with flash flooding. |
Stream / Creek | Scattered | While the heaviest rainfall totals remain N&W, instances of even 2-3" amounts result in a flooding risk for streams/creeks. |
Major River | Minimal | Larger rivers can see rises the next few days, but unlikely to cause issues. |
Instructions:
