Our parks and open spaces are vital to community health, providing recreational, social, and environmental benefits. To maintain a high-quality public park and trail system, our 2021 Comprehensive Plan recommended that the Village develop a plan to study our parks and open spaces, guide facilities improvements, and establish grant eligibility.
Shorewood Hills is now developing a Comprehensive Outdoor Recreation Plan, or CORP, to guide parks and recreation improvements over the next five years. The CORP will contain an inventory of existing recreation facilities, an analysis of outdoor recreation needs, and a list of projects to help address any unmet needs. CORPs are a required application component for many DNR grant programs and must be updated every five years.
The Recreation Committee is leading the CORP planning process with support from the Parks Committee. The Village has contracted with Capital Area Regional Planning Commission (CARPC) to develop the plan.
How can I participate?
- Take the public survey.
All residents and park users are invited to weigh in on the CORP planning process through an online survey and interactive map, available now through August 10.

- Review the draft plan.
Once a draft of the plan has been prepared, it will be shared with the public so community members can review the draft and submit their comments.
- Attend the public informational meeting.
The Village will hold a public informational meeting in late fall once a draft of the plan is ready to review. Stay tuned for event details.
- Attend the public hearing.
Public input on the draft plan will be used to create a final version. Before the Village Board adopts the final plan, a public hearing will be held at a Recreation Committee meeting this winter.
