SUMMARY: On Sunday, July 9, 2023, at approximately 1:34 p.m., at the intersection of Palmdale Road and Amargosa Road, Deputy Tomasello with the Victorville Police Department located an occupied Kia reported stolen out of Grand Terrace on July 8, 2023. Tomasello conducted a high-risk traffic stop, but the driver, Demetreous Stillman, failed to yield and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit.
During the pursuit, Stillman drove at high rates of speed, into opposing lanes of traffic, and failed to stop at stoplights with a disregard for safety. Stillman lost control of the vehicle and collided with a fire hydrant, and two vehicles in a residential driveway on the 15000 block of Tawney Ridge Lane. Stillman and the passenger, Elijah James, exited the vehicle and fled on foot. After a short pursuit, Stillman was detained. James ran through multiple backyards and discarded a loaded un-serialized handgun before being taken into custody.
Stillman and James were booked into custody at High Desert Detention Center. Stillman was charged with felony possession of a stolen vehicle, felony vehicle theft, felony evading a peace officer with a disregard for safety, misdemeanor obstructing a peace officer, with a total bail amount of $100,000, and an outstanding “no bail” juvenile warrant. James was charged with felony carrying a loaded firearm-not the owner, and felony obstructing/resisting an executive officer, with a total bail amount of $30,000.
