Summer Streets is back in Hoboken for 2023

Mayor Ravi S. Bhalla and the City of Hoboken announce the popular Summer Streets program, which offers car-free access to streets, is returning on Sundays on Sinatra Drive for the summer of 2023. Summer Streets is meant to provide additional open space for recreation along Hoboken’s scenic waterfront during the summer.

On Sunday, July 30, and Sunday, Aug. 6, Sinatra Drive between Fourth and 11th Streets will be closed to vehicular traffic from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Temporary No Parking signs will be posted in advance of the event, as drivers will not be permitted to drive on Sinatra Drive between Fourth Street and 11th Street during Summer Streets hours. Hoboken Police Officers will be on hand to provide traffic control at either end of the closed roadway.

Summer Streets are also scheduled to take place on Sundays through Labor Day on Aug. 13, Aug. 20, Aug. 27, and Sept. 3. The City will track usage during the first two weekends to determine times when Summer Streets closures should take place on the remaining Sundays through Labor Day weekend.

"Hoboken, like many urban communities, has a growing appetite for more open space, whether it be for recreation, socialization, or simply enjoying the waterfront views with family and friends,” said Mayor Bhalla. “I look forward to even more people taking advantage of this opportunity to enjoy this safe open space in our mile square city this summer.”

The Summer Streets program complements the ongoing Sinatra Drive Redesign Project, which will beautify the streetscape and improve access, connectivity, and safety for all users on the stretch of roadway between Fourth and Hudson Streets.
