High risk for additional flash flooding tomorrow, Sunday, July 16
This afternoon's storms have certainly been impactful with some spots seeing 2.00 - 3.00" of rain (a regional average of 0.75 - 2.00”). Thankfully, the heavy rain has subsided.
All of this makes tomorrow's threat all the more concerning given that the ground will be more saturated and only more susceptible to flooding. Look for the risk of heavy rain to build again late tonight into Sunday morning.
With any luck, there will some late AM/early PM lulls before one final round of showers and storms come through. If the higher end of the rainfall amounts come to fruition (3 – 5 inches in persistent downpours), some significant flooding (poor drainage and creeks/streams) will be possible.
The North Brunswick Office of Emergency Management advises residents to take the flash flooding threat seriously tomorrow. There were some road closures during the height of this afternoon’s storms and there is a good chance they could occur again tomorrow.
Please use caution while driving tomorrow as storms with torrential rains can occur quickly.
We will be monitoring the weather and provide updates as needed.
