Apple Valley Man Arrested for Arson after Starting Fires in the Restroom of Local Grocery Store

INCIDENT: PC 451(b) - Arson
LOCATION: 19047 Bear Valley Road, Apple Valley
SUSPECT(S): Hector Huerta, 40-year-old male of Apple Valley
SUMMARY: On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at approximately 5:25 p.m., employees at WinCo Foods called to report a fire in the men’s restroom inside the store. Deputies Benjamin Almazan and Stacey McMillan responded to the store and found the fires had been extinguished and the suspect was still at the location.
During Deputy Almazan's investigation, he learned the suspect, Hector Huerta, started multiple fires in the men’s restroom. Huerta was confronted by store employees and a retired firefighter, and the fires were extinguished.
Hector Huerta was arrested for arson and transported to High Desert Detention Center where he is being held in lieu of $80,000 bail.
