Stolen Vehicle Locate Leads to Arrest of Three to Include Retail Theft, Warrants 
Suspects drive stolen car to mall to commit retail theft. Caught in the act and arrested with the assistance of San Mateo County Vehicle Theft Task Force.
San Mateo, CA – On July 18, 2023, at 2:39 p.m., the San Mateo Police Department were alerted to a stolen vehicle in the area of the Hillsdale Shopping Center. Approximately six minutes later, an SMPD officer located the stolen Ford Mustang backed into a handicap parking stall at the mall. Officers maintained surveillance on the car while waiting for San Mateo County Vehicle Theft Task Force (VTTF) agents to arrive. One agent assigned to VTTF is actually an SMPD Officer who determined the vehicle was occupied by both a male passenger and female driver. Officers also witnessed a second female standing next to the vehicle talking to the occupants. Officers then watched the two females leave the parking lot and walk into Sephora, leaving the male alone in the stolen automobile. Officers then converged on the Mustang and took the male into custody. He was identified as Sekou Carson.
VTTF agents entered Sephora and witnessed the females, identified as Dominique West and Jessie Stewart (stolen vehicle driver) drop their personal bags on the floor in Sephora upon seeing police. It was determined that between the two, they had placed nearly $7,000 worth of perfumes and items into their personal bags and were walking towards the exit, past the cash registers without attempting to pay for the merchandise when they saw the police and dropped their bags. Both were arrested.
Stewart was arrested by VTTF for possession of the stolen vehicle as well as several theft related warrants, while SMPD handled the burglary and conspiracy arrest. West was arrested by SMPD for burglary and conspiracy, and Carson was arrested on a robbery warrant by VTTF. All were transported and booked into San Mateo County Jail.
