El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from July 9th to July 15th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 9th  to July 15th.

July 9th


Shoplift – 11565 San Pablo Ave (Walgreens):
At 11:32 AM an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole four pints of ice cream.

Vehicle Theft – 6900 block of Fairview Dr:
At 12:20 PM an officer reports the theft of a 2021 Dodge Charger which was captured on video at 10:28 AM.

Stolen Vehicle Recovery-1700 Block of Manor Circle: 
At 6:16 PM an officer recovered the victim’s vehicle that had been reported stolen to the ECPD earlier in the day.
 
July 10th  

Warrant Arrest – Norvell St / Stockton Ave:
At 11:55 AM an officer reports the arrest of person on a no cite $5,000.00 warrant, during a traffic stop for a stop sign violation.  They were arrested, issued a citation for the warrant, and released.

Warrant Arrest- 11821 San Pablo Ave:
At 11:30 PM officers were dispatched to a disturbance at the business. During the investigation, officers discovered the involved subject had an outstanding warrant for his arrest. The subject was taken into custody and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Grand Theft-Terrace Dr/ Craft Ave:
At 3:22 AM an officer reports unknown suspect(s) stole the rims and tires from the victim’s vehicle. The theft occurred in between 7/10@2230 hours and 7/11@0320 hours.

July 11th  

Shoplift- 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker):
At 6:32 PM an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole a pair of shoes.

Grand Theft – 1100 block of King Drive:
An officer was sent to the report that between 5:45 am and 10:30 am on July 8th someone stole all four rims and tires from the victim’s vehicle. 

Vehicle Tampering – 11344 San Pablo Avenue (Denny’s):
At 12:45 pm an officer was sent to the report that while the victim’s vehicle was parked in the parking lot someone shattered the window, got inside the vehicle, and broke the ignition column in an attempt to steal the vehicle. 

July 12th

Petty Theft – 11780 San Pablo Avenue (West County Optometry):
An officer was sent to the report that someone had come into the store and stole a pair of eyeglass frames and fled the business.  As the suspect fled the scene in a vehicle he collided with another vehicle and fled the scene of that collision. 

Grand Theft – 10890 San Pablo Avenue – 10890 San Pablo Avenue (El Cerrito City Hall):
City staff reports that a check that they had issued to a vender in Southern California was cashed by someone other than the vender. 

Grand Theft – 3509 Carlson Blvd. (Old West Gun Room):
The victim reported to an officer that a package had been stolen that had been left in front of the business.

Grand Theft – 500 block of Balra Drive:
An officer was sent to the report that two suspects stole 4-5 packages from a delivery truck.
 
July 13th

Commercial Burglary- 11048 San Pablo Ave (Harbor Freight Tools):
At 1:46 AM officers responded to the business for an audible alarm and located a smashed-out window near the front entrance. Officers searched the interior of the business and did not locate any suspects.

Commercial Burglary / stolen vehicle – 7140 Schmidt Lane (PG&E):
At 6:16 AM an officer was sent to the report that someone had cut the lock on the fence, entered the yard, and then forced entry into an office, stole keys to a truck parked outside, and then stole the truck.  PG&E later were able to use the GPS device on the truck to locate it in Unincorporated Richmond.  The vehicle was recovered by ECPD and returned to PG&E. 

Stolen Vehicle – 1223 Cabrillo Street:
At 6:53 AM an officer was sent to the report of a stolen vehicle that had occurred between 4:00 pm on the 12th and 6:00 am on the 13th.  At 10:29 am the vehicle was captured on the new Automated License Plate Reader (ALPR) cameras and an officer located it near San Pablo Avenue at Moeser Lane.  After an attempt to stop the driver of the truck he sped away and did not comply.  A vehicle pursuit was not initiated however officers stayed in the area so they could observe the vehicle.  The vehicle collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Potrero Avenue at S. 56th Street and the driver got out of the vehicle and ran away.  Officer pursued the driver and were able to catch him on Potrero Avenue at I-80.  The driver was booked at ECPD and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 

Petty Theft – 1200 block of Liberty Street:
At 1:39 PM an officer reports the theft of a front license plate from the victim’s vehicle.  The theft occurred sometime in the last 24 hours.    

July 14th  

Vandalism / Vehicle Tampering – 2000 block of Junction Ave:
At 8:12 AM an officer reports an unidentified suspect broke into a mailbox, but there was no known loss.  The suspect then shattered the right front window of a burgundy Hyundai Sonata and damaged the steering column in an apparent attempt to steal the vehicle, but were unsuccessful.  

Burglary (Residential) – 3000 block of Carlson Blvd:
At 12:46 PM an officer reports a neighbor witnessed the suspect climbing into the victim house through a side window.  A few minutes later the suspect left toward Carlson Blvd.

Warrant Arrest x3- Eastshore Blvd/Potrero Ave:
At 10:42 PM an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop and discovered the driver had three outstanding warrants from Solano County. The driver was taken into custody and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Driving Under the Influence- San Pablo Ave./Central Ave:
At 2:26 AM officers located a driver passed out in the driver’s seat of his vehicle stopped in middle of the roadway. Officers contacted the driver and conducted a DUI investigation and determined the driver was under the influence. The driver was booked at the ECPD and released to a sober relative.

July 15th

Warrant Arrest – Peerless Ave / Cutting Blvd:
At 10:34 AM an officer arrested a person on two non-citable Lake County misdemeanor warrants.  The person was arrested, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.  
 
Shoplift – 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot locker):
At 10:36 AM an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole shoes and fled.

Burglary (Residential) – 1500 block of Kearney St:
At 10:26 AM an officer reports a suspect broke in to the victim’s residence and stole property sometime overnight while the victims were home asleep.  The suspect was identified via video surveillance, and is the same suspect who burglarized this residence and stole a car in June.  An arrest warrant was authored for the suspect.  

Vehicle Theft – 5600 block of El Dorado Ave:
At 1:37 PM an officer reports the theft of a vehicle sometime between 8:00 PM on 7/14 and 1:00 PM on 7/15.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – El Dorado Ave/ San Pablo Ave:
At 2:32 PM while circulating the area on the previous vehicle theft, the officer recovered a seperate vehicle reported stolen to Martinez PD on 10/22/2022.

Warrant Arrest- San Pablo Ave/Potrero Ave:
At 1:42 AM an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During a search of the vehicle the officer located two glass pipes used for smoking methamphetamine. The driver was issued a citation and released at the scene.

Warrant Arrest/Identity Theft- San Pablo Ave/Knott Ave:
At 5:08 AM an officer conducted a traffic enforcement stop. During the investigation, the officer discovered the driver had in his possession several driver licenses and credit cards belonging to four different people. During a records check, the officer discovered the passenger had an outstanding parole warrant. Both subjects were transported to the ECPD for booking. After booking the driver was issued a citation and the passenger was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility for his warrant.
