Traffic Stop Leads to Discovery of Methamphetamine and Firearms

INCIDENT: Possession of a Controlled Substance While Armed, Carrying a Loaded Handgun: Not the Owner, Driving While Under the Influence of a Controlled Substance
LOCATION: Air Expressway and D Street, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): Jeff Grewatz, 53-Year-Old Male, Resident of Victorville
Nichole Cox, 43-Year-Old Female, Resident of Hinkley
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Sunday, July 16, 2023, at approximately 12:56 a.m., while on proactive patrol, deputies from the Victorville Police Department conducted a traffic stop on a black Dodge Challenger for a vehicle code violation. During a search of the vehicle, deputies located suspected methamphetamine, drug paraphernalia, a handgun, and a loaded shotgun. The driver, Jeff Grewatz exhibited signs of being under the influence of a controlled substance. The passenger, Nichole Cox, had outstanding warrants for drug charges.
Grewatz and Cox were arrested and booked into custody at High Desert Detention Center. Grewatz was charged with felony possession of a controlled substance while armed, carrying a loaded handgun: not the owner, and misdemeanor driving while under the influence of a controlled substance.
