***UPDATE*** IMPD Detectives Make Second Arrest in Homicide/ Robbery Investigation

INDIANAPOLIS- On August 2, 2023, IMPD detectives arrested 18-year-old Adrian Bond, Jr. for his alleged involvement in the death of 19-year-old Elijah Martin who was killed on July 12, 2023. Bond was arrested for felony murder and robbery.

INDIANAPOLIS - On Wednesday, July 12, 2023, just before 12:30 p.m., IMPD North District officers were dispatched to the 3300 block of Meridian St. on a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, later identified as 19-year-old Elijah Martin, who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s). Martin was transported to an area hospital in critical condition, by Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS). Shortly after he arrived to the hospital, Martin was pronounced deceased by medical staff.
 
IMPD Homicide Detectives responded to the scene to begin the investigation. Throughout the investigation, IMPD Homicide detectives identified 18-year-old Jeremiah Shanks as a person of interest in this incident. On Monday, July 24, 2023,  IMPD Special Weapons and Tactics (SWAT) and Violent Crimes Unit (VCU) located Shanks and took him into custody. After further investigation, Shanks was arrested for his role in this homicide/ robbery. The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make the final charging decision.
