Update: Investigation Indicates Death of a Two-Year-Old Child to be Accidental
The Green Bay Police Department is able to release that the investigation into the death of a two-year-old child at a residence on the City’s east side is believed to be accidental.
Officers were dispatched on Thursday, July 20, 2023, around 3:30 p.m. to the 600 block of S. Irwin Avenue for a child found who was found unconscious and not breathing.
Witnesses reported that the child was found entangled in a pull cord attached to bedroom blinds.
The Brown County Office of the Medical Examiner has certified the case as an accidental asphyxial death.
Green Bay Police would like to remind parents and caregivers to please take precautions to keep dangling cords from window coverings out of reach from children or invest in cordless window coverings, which can reduce the risk of strangulation or serious injury.
The investigation remains active. No arrests have been made. No further details will be released.
