Advisory

Severe Thunderstorm Watch Issued; flooding possible in low lying areas

The National Weather Service has issued a Severe Thunderstorm Watch for Hudson County and surrounding counties starting this afternoon until 8 p.m. Showers and thunderstorms are expected to develop across the area with rainfall amounts of 1 to 2 inches, and localized higher amounts possible at times. These totals may result in flooding at low-lying areas.

The Office of Emergency Management (OEM) encourages residents to exercise caution as any intense rainfall of greater than 0.8 inch per hour could result in flooding in low-lying areas.

Residents are urged to avoid flood-prone areas. OEM will deploy barricades at flood-prone intersections. Do not drive around barricades.

Please report flooded intersections and clogged drain inlets by calling the NHSA Hotline at (866) 689-3970

Residents should monitor local forecasts for additional advisories, watches, and warnings. Updates will be posted on the Hoboken OEM twitter page at @HobokenOEM.  Residents are also encouraged to monitor the City’s Twitter at @CityOfHoboken and Facebook at facebook.com/hoboken, or sign up to receive email or text updates by visiting www.hobokennj.gov/alerts.
