National Night Out 2023 to take place at Church Square Park in Hoboken

The Hoboken Police Department invites residents to participate in National Night Out on Tuesday, Aug. 1, 2023, from 5 p.m. through 9 p.m. in Church Square Park.

National Night Out, held on the first Tuesday of August in communities across the country every year, brings together members of law enforcement and public safety, city residents, businesses, and community leaders to promote and support police-community relationships. The event, which is co-sponsored by the Hoboken and Stevens Institute of Technology Police Departments this year, also offers residents the opportunity to learn about local police programs, partnerships, and initiatives that are helping to build an even safer Hoboken.

"National Night Out brings together police, the community, businesses and other first responders, to stand against crime together, while spreading awareness about crime prevention,” said Hoboken Public Safety Director Ken Ferrante. “It’s also a great way to strengthen the relationship between the community and law enforcement, a relationship which helps to keep crime down in the city.”

“I am proud of the relationship our department already has built with the Hoboken community,” said Hoboken Police Chief Steven Aguiar. “Events like National Night Out, help to solidify our commitment to fostering community engagement and neighborhood camaraderie. Together, we are all working to make Hoboken safer and healthier place to live.”

The Hoboken and Stevens police departments will be joined by representatives of the Hoboken Fire Department, the Hoboken Office of Emergency Management, the Hoboken EMS and Volunteer Ambulance Corps, NJ Transit Police, the Hudson County Prosecutor’s Office, the Hudson County Sheriff’s Office, Hoboken’s social workers, and more.

This year's event will feature activities for people of all ages. Highlights include free food including ice cream, hot dogs, empanadas, donuts, and frozen hot chocolate, along with musical entertainment, a photo booth, inflatable mini golf, a water slide, a sensory tent, a bouncy house, and arts and crafts activities.

National Night Out is free, and all are welcome, and encouraged, to attend.
