IMPD Detectives Arrest Man with Three Guns and a Glock Switch
On Thursday, July 13, 2023, Detectives with the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) were proactively patrolling the area of 38th and Post Road. Detectives observed a Nissan Altima fail to use its turn signal as it turned westbound on 38th Street from Post Road. Detectives with Indiana State Police (ISP) and ICGTF initiated a traffic stop near the 3900 block of Alsace Drive. ICGTF Detectives approached the vehicle and could immediately smell the odor of burnt marijuana emitting from the vehicle. The vehicle was occupied by four males, one male was later identified as 18-year-old Michael Jones.
IMPD ICGTF Detectives arrived on scene and assisted with the traffic stop. Detectives then conducted a search of the vehicle. Detectives located a machine gun conversion device also known as a “Glock switch”. A machine gun conversion device is a small square component, which when applied to a Glock handgun, converts the semi-automatic handgun into a fully automatic handgun.
Throughout the investigation, detectives additionally located two Glock handguns and an AR pistol. Detectives determined one of the handguns had been reported stolen.
The Detectives spoke with Jones who admitted the firearms and machine gun conversion device were his. Jones was arrested for possession of a machine gun and transported to the Marion County Adult Intake Center. The other occupants were released from the scene.
The Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and make the final charging decision. An arrest is merely an accusation and Jones should be considered innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
This case was brought as part of the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF). ICGTF is a partnership of law enforcement officers and analysts from several central Indiana law enforcement agencies in Boone, Hamilton, Hancock, Hendricks, Marion, Morgan, Johnson, and Shelby counties. In cooperation with state, local, and federal partners, ICGTF collaborates to address violent crime through a comprehensive strategy including innovative approaches to locating suspects and evidence related to violent crimes and illegal possession of firearms.
