SUMMARY: On Tuesday, July 18, 2023, at approximately 10:20 a.m., deputies from the Fontana Sheriff's Station responded to a 9-1-1 call from an employee at a business regarding a hostile male, threatening staff with a hammer.
Deputy Gentry responded to the call for service and arrived within minutes. Gentry noticed an angry and erratic white male adult, later identified as Vincent Navarro, waving a hammer and making threats in the lobby area. Gentry coordinated with other deputies and formulated a plan to safely evacuate staff from the rear of the building. Deputies attempted to gain Navarro's compliance, but he refused to cooperate and follow commands. Deputies used less lethal impact munitions causing Navarro to drop the hammer. Navarro was taken into custody without further incident. He was transported to Arrowhead Regional Medical Center for treatment and booked at the West Valley Detention Center for criminal threats.
