SIMI VALLEY POLICE DEPARTMENT TO HOST COMMUNITY ENGAGEMENT MEETING TO DISCUSS MILITARY EQUIPMENT

The Simi Valley Police Department is hosting a Community Engagement Meeting on Wednesday, August 9, 2023, at 5:30 p.m. to review its Annual Report on the use of Military Equipment as defined and required by Government Code 7072, more commonly known as AB 481, and answer questions regarding the related policy. 

AB 481, signed by Governor Newsom on September 30, 2021, required law enforcement agencies across the state to adopt a Military Equipment Use policy and implement it by ordinance and report on its use annually.  The Police Department’s Military Equipment Use Policy was approved by the City Council and codified it into law by adopting ordinance 1342 on June 13, 2022. 

Military Equipment as defined by AB 481 is broken down into 15 categories, including firearms and ammunition, battering rams, Tasers, pepper spray, and other equipment commonly used by law enforcement agencies across the country to enhance community and officer safety. 

The Military Equipment Annual Report Community Engagement Meeting will be held in the in the Emergency Operations Center of the Simi Valley Police Department, located at 3901 Alamo Street.
