Gilroy Police Department Assault and Vandalism Investigation
On July 26, 2023 at approximately 8:55 A.M. the Gilroy Police Department’s Communication Center received multiple 9-1-1 calls of a man using concrete blocks and a metal chair to break windows to businesses at the Gilroy Premium Outlets on Leavesley Road. The responding officers also learned the suspect approached a woman in a vehicle and used his fist to break her windshield, while the victim was still seated in the driver’s seat. When the officers arrived, they located the suspect in the parking lot, but he did not respond to de-escalation attempts and displayed no intentions of cooperating with the officers. To prevent any further threat to the public and businesses, a Taser was used to prevent further attacks and to subdue the suspect and he was safely placed under arrest.
The suspect was identified as Mauricio Medina-Vera, a 38-year-old Gilroy resident. He was provided with medical treatment and transported to the Santa Clara County Jail on charges related to the assault and vandalism.
