Excessive Heat Warning until 08:00PM Friday

...HEAT ADVISORY IN EFFECT FROM 8 PM FRIDAY TO 7 PM CDT SATURDAY...

* WHAT...Dangerously hot conditions Today and Friday with heat index values up to 115 expected, with overnight heat index values only falling into the mid to upper 70s. Very hot temperatures may then persist into Saturday with peak heat index values up to 107.

* WHERE...Portions of central, east central, southeast and west central Illinois.

* WHEN...For the Excessive Heat Warning, from 6 AM this morning to 8 PM CDT Friday. For the Heat Advisory, from 8 PM Friday to 7 PM CDT Saturday.

* IMPACTS...Extreme heat and humidity will significantly increase the potential for heat related illnesses, particularly for those working or participating in outdoor activities. The impacts of heat are cumulative, and are amplified with extended exposure.

* ADDITIONAL DETAILS...There is some potential for cooler temperatures to filter into the region sooner than currently anticipated by Saturday, putting Saturday's Heat Advisory in jeopardy.

Instructions:

Respect the heat. Drink plenty of fluids, stay in an air- conditioned room, stay out of the sun, and check up on relatives and neighbors. Young children and pets should never be left unattended in vehicles under any circumstances. Take extra precautions if you work or spend time outside. When possible reschedule strenuous activities to early morning or evening. Anyone overcome by heat should be moved to a cool and shaded location. Heat stroke is an emergency! Call 9 1 1.
