Storm Damage Updates
City Hall is temporarily closed to the public due to a power outage, as of Thursday afternoon, July 27. Public Safety and the Department of Public Works are available to respond to critical and emergency requests for service. Residents are advised to use online services or the drop-box for payments until the power is restored. The power outage was caused by a severe storm that swept through the city and most of Southeastern Michigan on Wednesday afternoon.
If you need emergency assistance, call 911. If you need Public Safety assistance or Public Works, call dispatch at 248-349-1234.
With traffic lights out, the city has put up stop signs at those intersections to be used as a four-way stop. If you are driving through town, please use extra caution.
Watch for downed power lines hidden in storm debris, and stay at least 25 feet away from any fallen lines. Assume them to be live and dangerous. Please report downed lines here or in the DTE app. To see when power may be restored to your home and neighborhood, track the DTE power outage web page, which is frequently updated. View it here: https://outagemap.dteenergy.com.
Many businesses in Downtown Northville and other commercial areas in the city are still without power. Please call ahead to make sure the business you plan on going to today is open.
Seniors and others who may need a cooling center can visit the Northville Township building, 44405 Six Mile, until 9 p.m. Thursday for cooling off and charging phones and other devices. Also, the atrium of the city of Novi government building, 45175 W. 10 Mile, will serve as a cooling station until 9 p.m. Thursday. Both buildings will be open on Friday during regular business hours to serve as a cooling station.
The evening of July 26, DPW crews were clearing downed trees and tree limbs from streets, with assistance from the Fire Dept. and Police Dept. Much of the tree debris was moved to the side of the road for pick-up starting today. If you have tree limbs from the storm, you can set them at curbside for DPW to pick up today and Friday (July 27/28). Next week, they will need to be cut into sections no larger than 6 feet by 6 inches in diameter for pick-up by GFL during regular compost pickup days/hours.
