Crime Alert Bulletin Covering the Week of July 17-23, 2023

When I mention “the unit block” of a street, this means the incident occurred at an address anywhere between 1 and 99 of the street.

Robberies

There were two robberies during the past week.

On Wednesday, 07-19-23, at approximately 5:35 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Target at the Serramonte Shopping Center on a report of a suspect attempting to shoplift and brandishing a knife. An asset protection specialist stated that one male suspect and one female suspect were pushing a shopping cart full of merchandise. The asset protection specialist saw the suspects select a large cooler jug and a large plushy stuffed animal and place them in the shopping cart. Both suspects proceeded to walk towards the front of the store with the male pushing the shopping cart with merchandise valued at approximately $340. Both suspects passed the first “tower,” Target’s entrance and exit. The asset protection agent, along with a security guard, approached the suspects at the vestibule. The asset protection specialist stated that the male suspect charged at him with the shopping cart at full speed, and the female suspect pushed the security guard. All four of them exited the store. The asset protection specialist confirmed the merchandise was still inside the shopping cart at the vestibule. The security guard stated that when they were all outside the vestibule, the male suspect presented a knife, made eye contact with him, and stated, “I’ll f*cking kill you!” Both suspects fled in a white Toyota Camry.

On Thursday, 07-20-23, at approximately 11:50 p.m., an officer was dispatched to Hillside Park on the 200 block of Lausanne Avenue on a report of a robbery. The victim stated as he was walking through the park, five unknown suspects punched him multiple times and stole his cell phone and key wallet, both worth approximately $1,800. A short time later, the victim was able to locate his cell phone. The victim described the suspects as 18 to 20 year old Hispanic males. Two of the suspects were wearing face masks with skinny builds, two suspects were wearing hoodies with average builds, and one suspect was described as having a heavy build.

On Wednesday, 07-19-23, at approximately 8:05 p.m., an officer was dispatched to an apartment on the 700 block of Serramonte Boulevard on a report of an unknown male attempting to enter a residence with a firearm and baseball bat. The suspect gained access to the building behind another resident, knocked on the door, and contacted the victim. The victim thought it was his neighbor knocking and opened the door. The suspect brandished a firearm at the victim and attempted to enter the residence; however, the victim stopped the suspect. Through investigation, on 07-26-23, the suspect, a 28-year-old Redwood City resident, was arrested and booked into jail for burglary, assault with a firearm, carrying a loaded firearm, and other charges.

Nextdoor.com

Nextdoor.com is a free private social networking website for your neighborhood. This private network ensures that only those who live in your neighborhood can join; users must go through a verification process. Neighbors ask each other for business recommendations; help in locating missing pets; discuss relevant local government issues; or connect for other reasons. It is very easy to sign up. I like the fact that the site verifies users by addresses, and it won’t allow people to access a neighborhood if they don’t live there. Please note: The City of Daly City and/or the Police Department cannot see what residents post—we are only allowed to post information. There is also a mobile application, or you can have it sent to your e-mail. Give it a try!  www.nextdoor.com
