Excessive Heat and Humidity Today into Saturday

The heat wave continues with temperatures in the upper 90's today with heat index values as high as 107 at the shore. For those needing a place to cool off, two cooling centers are available in Neptune Township. The Neptune Senior Center (1607 RT 33) is open until 6:00PM today and the Neptune Public Library (25 Neptune Blvd) is open until 5:00PM today and is also open 8:00AM to 1:00PM on Saturday.

Use these tips to help beat the heat:

• Avoid (or take frequent breaks from) strenuous outdoor activity and exercise
• Drink plenty of water throughout the day, especially if you're doing outdoor activities
• Wear lightweight, loose-fitting, and light-colored clothing along with sunglasses and hats for added protection
• If you will be spending time outside, apply sunscreen
• Know the early symptoms of heatstroke including dizziness, nausea, weakness and confusion, seek help immediately if you begin to experience them
• Bring pets inside, do not walk them on hot surfaces, and ensure they have plenty of water available
• Check on friends, family, and neighbors, especially if they are at-risk
