Wilmington Police arrest man in connection to February 2022 fatal shooting incident:
Wilmington Police have arrested a man in connection to a February 2022 fatal shooting incident.
On February 21, 2022, at approximately 2:32 p.m., members of the Uniformed Services Division responded to the 700 block of Warner Street, in reference to a shooting incident. Upon arrival, officers located a gunshot victim – 23-year-old Jermaine Meadows – who was transported to the hospital and later succumbed to his injuries.
The case was assigned to Detective Joseph Wicks of the Criminal Investigations Division. Through the course of his investigation Detective Wicks identified 25-year-old Lance Leatherbury as a suspect. The case was presented to the New Castle County Grand Jury on October 10, 2022, and an indictment was returned for Leatherbury. On March 22, 2022, Leatherbury was taken into custody in Pennsylvania on an unrelated matter.
Leatherbury has been charged with the following offenses:
- Murder (First Degree)
- Possession of a Firearm During the Commission of a Felony – Two Counts
- Possession of a Firearm by a Person Prohibited
- Aggravated Menacing
- Conspiracy (Second Degree)
