El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from July 16th to July 22nd

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 16th  to July 22nd.

July 16th


Vandalism / Attempt Burglary – 3200 block of Yosemite Ave:
At 6:19 AM an officer reports an unidentified suspect removed the bathroom window screen from the victim’s apartment.  The resident heard the noise and called out, causing the suspect to flee before they could enter.  
 
Grand Theft – 11687 San Pablo Ave (Valero):
At 12:19 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect entered the Valero and wrestled the lottery scratcher rack off the counter.  He then took the rack and the tickets and entered the rear seat of a waiting vehicle and fled.
 
Vehicle Theft – 6600 block of Schmidt Ln:
At 3:20PM, an officer reports the theft of a motor scooter from the carport sometime overnight.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Pablo Ave / Madison Ave:
At 3:56 PM, an officer reports the recovery of a white VW Jetta.  The registered owner was driving the vehicle after having located it in Oakland several days prior, but failed to notify OPD to remove the vehicle from the stolen vehicle system.

Shoplift- 430 El Cerrito Plaza (Foot Locker):
At 7:29 PM, an officer reports a female suspect fled the store with a pair of shoes without paying.

July 17th

Attempted Residential Burglary – 6400 block of Fairmount Ave.
The victim reported that on Sunday July 16th at 5:49AM an unknown suspect jumped over their side fence and pried off a window screen to the residence.

Petty Theft – 6600 block of Cutting Blvd.
At 12:0PM the victim reported her front license plate was stolen from their vehicle.

Assault on a Police Officer/Resisting Arrest/Drunk in Public/Warrant Arrest – San Pablo Ave at Moeser Ln.
At 1:05PM officers responded to 24hour Fitness for an unwanted person who was inebriated and yelling at staff. The suspect exited the business when the officers arrived. The suspect was found to have a felony warrant for his arrest. When officers attempted to arrest him, the suspect threw a glass bottle at a police officer and ran away. The suspect was immediately apprehended and placed under arrest. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Shoplifting/Warrant Arrest – 5805 Cutting Blvd (Skechers):
At 5:49 PM two suspects attempted to leave the store with unpaid merchandise. When employees confronted the suspects, one of the suspects brandished a can of pepper spray and threatened to spray the employees.  One of the suspects was detained by officers at the Del Norte BART station parking lot.  The suspect was positively identified by one of the employees and placed under citizen’s arrest.  The suspect was found to have two warrants out of San Francisco.  The suspect was released on a citation and was taken to the hospital for an unrelated medical issue. 
 
Shoplifting –  670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS):
At 6:49 PM four suspects concealed merchandise into their bags and left the store without paying.

Criminal Threats – 600 block of Lexington Ave: 
At 8:22 PM hours, the suspect threatened to shoot the victim during an argument about a rental property.  The victim feared for their safety, however, no weapons were seen or used.    

Stolen Vehicle – 11545 San Pablo Ave:
At 9:09 PM the victim parked her vehicle in the parking lot with the engine running. When the victim returned from shopping, her vehicle was stolen. At 10:21 PM hours, a Richmond police officer located the vehicle in the City of Richmond and arrested the driver and passenger. 

Brandishing a Weapon – 11940 San Pablo Ave (New Concept Laundromat):
At 9:37 PM an employee was walking to their car in the parking lot when they noticed the victim and noticed the suspect removing items from a donation bin. The suspect cursed at the victim and approached the victim’s vehicle with a toilet seat as if he was going to hit her or her car.   The victim backed away, and the suspect fled prior to police arrival.
 
July 18th

No incidents to report.

July 19th

Grand Theft – Liberty St at Portola Dr.
At 5:36 AM the victim reported that all the tires and rims were stolen off their vehicle sometime last night.

Stolen Vehicle – 7700 block of Potrero Ave.
At 8:09 AM the victim reported that their vehicle was stolen from their driveway last night. 
 
Grand Theft – 3200 block of Yosemite Ave.
All four of the victims’ tires and rims were stolen from the victim’s vehicle sometime from July 17th at 6PM to July 19th at 8AM.

Grand Theft – 500 block of Albemarle St.
The victim’s power tools were stolen from the backyard, last night from 5PM to 9PM.

July 20th

Stolen Vehicle – 5800 block of Alta Punta
The victims vehicle was stolen from their driveway from July 19th at 7PM to July 20th at 7AM.

Brandishing a Weapon – 11861 San Pablo Ave (Starbucks)
At 10:22AM the suspect was inside Starbucks brandishing a machete at customers.  Officers detained the suspect inside and located three machetes in his property.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation. 

Stolen Vehicle – 6700 block of Hagen Blvd.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen from their driveway from July 19th at 5:30PM to July 20th 2:29PM.

Petty Theft – 2300 block of Alva Ave.
At 4:09PM, the victim reported that unknown suspect(s) miscellaneous tools from their construction site. 

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky parking lot):
At 12:54PM, Officer Mitchell located an unoccupied Volkswagen reported stolen to San Francisco PD on July 16th

Burglary – 500 block of Lexington Ave:
An officer reports an unknown suspect cut the lock off of the victim’s detached garage and stole a bicycle and helmet. The incident occurred between 7/17 @ 7:00 AM to 7/19 @ 7:00 AM. 

Vehicle Tampering / Attempt Theft - Kearney St/ Cutting Blvd:
At 11:15 PM, an officer reports the victim exited the BART station and was walking to her parked vehicle when she noticed the suspect standing next to it. When the suspect saw the victim, he quickly jumped into his awaiting vehicle and fled the area. The victim examined her vehicle and noticed a puncture on her gas tank with gas leaking.  ECFD responded for the leaking gasoline.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle - Kearney St/ Conlon Ave:
At 11:23 PM, an officer located a 2000 GMC Savana van unoccupied. The van was reported stolen to Richmond PD earlier in the day. The victim responded to the location and took possession of her van.

Vehicle Theft – 3300 block of Carlson Blvd:
At 2:08 AM, the victim heard the sound of his vehicle’s alarm and went outside to investigate. He noticed an unknown suspect had stolen his vehicle and last heard it going northbound on San Pablo Ave.

Vehicle Theft – 2000 block of Key Blvd:
At 5:27 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect stole a 2003 Ford Van sometime during the night.

July 21st

Grand Theft – 1800 block of Arlington Blvd:
At 7:13 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole a Specialized Stump Jumper bicycle from inside an unlocked vehicle.  The victim had a tracker attached to the bike, and it last pinged in Richmond at 6:16 AM.

Grand Theft – 6400 block of Conlon Ave:
At 8:33 AM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole tools from a van between 6:29 AM and 7:48 AM. 
 
July 22nd
Felony Battery-11299 San Pablo Ave (Del Norte Liquors): 
At 6:43 PM, an officer reports an unknown suspect confronted the victim about being inside the store. The suspect then punched the victim approximately five times in the face before fleeing the scene. The victim was transported to a local hospital for medical treatment.
 
Commercial Burglary- 11060 San Pablo Ave (Harbor Freight Tools): 
At 4:02 AM, an officer reports an unknown suspect smashed out a front window of the business to gain entry. The suspect fled with merchandise.
