Incident: Fatal traffic collision

Location: Intersection of Homestead Road and Maryann Drive
On Friday, July 28, 2023, at 8:48 p.m., a witness called Santa Clara public safety dispatchers to report a collision involving a vehicle and a pedestrian.
Santa Clara fire and police personnel arrived at the scene and performed CPR on the pedestrian. Despite their efforts, the pedestrian was pronounced deceased at the scene.
A preliminary investigation by SCPD officers revealed the driver of a Toyota pick-up truck drove westbound on Homestead Road toward Maryann Drive in the #2, right lane of traffic. The pedestrian was walking in the crosswalk when struck by the vehicle.
The driver of the vehicle remained at the scene and fully cooperated with SCPD. Drugs and alcohol did not appear to be a factor in this collision.
SCPD Traffic and Crime Scene Investigators arrived on scene and documented the collision.
The victim was an 85-year-old male resident of Santa Clara. The victim’s identity is being withheld until the Santa Clara County – Office of the Medical Examiner-Coroner can provide proper notification.
The driver was a 55 year-old male resident of Cupertino.
