INCIDENT: In-Custody Death Investigation
LOCATION: Central Detention Center, 630 E. Rialto Ave, San Bernardino
DECEASED: Anthony Edward Ramirez, 41-year-old resident of San Bernardino
SUMMARY: On Saturday, July 29, 2023, deputies at the Central Detention Center discovered an inmate, Anthony Ramirez, hanging inside a cell. Deputies, along with jail medical staff, immediately provided medical treatment. Ramirez was transported to a local hospital where, despite life-saving measures, he was pronounced deceased.
Investigators with the Sheriff’s Specialized Investigations Division responded and assumed the investigation, which is ongoing.
Ramirez was arrested on September 21, 2021, by the San Bernardino Police Department, for possession of a controlled substance while armed, felon in possession of a firearm, and prohibited person in possession of ammunition.
