National Night Out A Huge Success - Thank You!

South Brunswick Police Chief Raymond Hayducka praised all those who came out and made Tuesday’s National Night Out an amazing time. “We had perfect weather and unbelievable crowds. The partnership with all our volunteers, corporate sponsors, and residents made it a great night. Police leaders from around the state ask me how we have such large turnouts for this event, I tell them it is because we have such a great community”.

The event was one of the largest in the state with 8,200 people attending it. The carnival-like environment with rides, displays, and food created a great environment to highlight the excellent police-community relations we enjoy in South Brunswick. To provide some perspective on how large the event was, here are some numbers;

  • 8,200 community members came out
  • 8,000 bottles of water were given out
  • 3,250 hot dogs were served
  • 1,000 ice pops and ice cream were given out
  • 420 pizzas were made on a wood-fired brick oven truck and served

The event allowed dozens of officers to interact with residents and show the behind the scene aspects of police work. One of the highlights was the ability to dunk a police officer. Officer Sean Nally spent three hours in the dunk tank, allowing residents to put him in the water. “It was all about giving back and being part of a great night”, said Officer Nally.  There were multiple display tables about how the South Brunswick Police work. In addition, the FBI and US Treasury Agents were on hand showing off their equipment. Also on display were all the other emergency service departments in the Township from fire to EMS.

Lieutenant Gene Rickle, the event coordinator said, “We expanded our event like never before to offer more food, rides, and games. That was only possible because we had some great sponsors. This year we had Hermann Total Distribution Service step forward to be a Diamond Level Sponsor as well as our Platinum sponsors Aurobindo, Coca-Cola, Wakefern, and Dayton Toyota.” Chief Hayducka thanked all the sponsors for their help. “An event of this magnitude is not possible without our sponsors. I thank each one of them for their support of the police department and this event,” said Chief Hayducka.

The event strengthened our police–community relations and created memories for a lifetime.
