Message Regarding the Chief of Police's Community Advisory Board (CAB). Now Accepting New Member Applications.

Dear Fremont Community,

Some of you may know the Fremont Police Department has, for many years, benefited from the thoughts, perspectives, and ideas brought forward by our community. In 1994, Chief Craig Steckler (ret.) established the department’s first advisory group (the Citizens Advisory Group), which consisted of 20 members. Chief Steckler chose members from various disciplines and professions to act as a sounding board for department policy development, equipment acquisitions, and other matters of interest to our community. The advisory group continued to advise succeeding police chiefs providing invaluable guidance and dialogue on complex issues concerning our community.

Now named the Community Advisory Board (CAB), the purpose of having community engagement and participation is to bring together a representative cross-section of perspectives to serve in an advisory capacity to the Chief of Police by providing input on policy, technology, social issues, crime strategies, community engagement, department direction, and prioritization. The CAB also assists with two-way communication between the Fremont Police Department (FPD) and the community we serve.

Building on the foundation, benefits, and continued success of the Community Advisory Board, I recently expanded the group to include additional diverse perspectives from members throughout our community. The Chief’s Community Advisory Board can now accommodate up to 25 members and will consist of original Sustaining Members and newly added District Members who will represent each of the six (6) districts throughout our great city. District Members will serve a maximum of two (2) years, allowing for new perspectives to periodically be added.

Having an unwavering desire to provide the highest level of professional law enforcement service, and in the spirit of transparency and accountability, the updated Chief’s Community Advisory Board aligns with contemporary policing expectations and evolving community expectations.

With the recent update, we are now accepting applications for volunteers to join the Chief’s Community Advisory Board. If you are interested in joining the CAB as a District Member or for more information, please access the following website: https://fremontpolice.gov/CAB

Respectfully.
Chief Sean Washington
