We would like to share additional forecast details for a strong frontal system that will move across the region on Friday and Saturday.
 
Key Points:
•             A Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for the Kuskokwim Delta coast. South to southeasterly winds gusting 45-60 mph. Water levels 3-5 feet above normal highest tide
•             A Special Weather Statement is in effect for the Alaska Peninsula and Bristol Bay to highlight strong winds. Alaska Peninsula: Gusts to 40-50 mph, Friday evening through Saturday morning.
Bristol Bay: Gusts to 35-45 mph through most of Saturday
•             Social media posts have been shared to Facebook and X/Twitter. Weather Summary (identical information to Facebook post)
A strong, fall-like storm moving into Southwest AK from Friday through Sunday will bring gusty southerly winds, high waves & minor coastal flooding/erosion, and heavy rain.
•             Graphic 1 shows the forecast wind speeds and approximate time of arrival. The strongest winds (45-60 mph) are expected along Kuskokwim Delta coast and Alaska Peninsula, where the front will be strongest. A Special Weather Statement is in effect for Bristol Bay and the Alaska Peninsula.
•             Graphics 2 and 3 show what coastal water levels might look like for parts of the Kuskokwim Delta coast on Saturday, where a Coastal Flood Advisory is in effect for water levels reaching up to 3-5 ft above normal highest tide line. The highest water levels are expected Saturday afternoon, but areas west of Kipnuk could see 2 tidal peaks Saturday morning and afternoon.
•             Graphics 4 and 5 show rain totals and the timing of heaviest rain for communities in the Bering Sea, Aleutian Islands, and Southwest Alaska. Some communities could see over 1 inch of rain.
