**original release**
On Friday, August 4, at approximately 8am, A motors officer stopped a man driving a pickup for a traffic offense. The driver was found to have a warrant. When the officer started to arrest the suspect, he began resisting and fighting with the officer. The suspect ran and the officer chased him on foot and caught him in the alley of the 3400 block of Janet. The officer was trying to take the suspect into custody and the suspect was fighting and resisting him. A citizen stopped and began helping the officer to attempt to get the suspect into custody. At one point the suspect was able to get the officers gun partially out of his holster and a round went off grazing the officer on his leg. The officer was able to gain control of his gun and he and the citizen were able to hold the suspect until the backup officers arrived. Once they arrived the suspect was handcuffed and arrested. Both the officer and suspect were checked by paramedics at the scene. The officer was later taken to the hospital to be treated for his injury. The Homicide Unit is investigating this incident.
