El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from July 23rd to July 29th

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.

The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 23rd to July 29th.

July 23rd


Warrant Arrest – Cutting Blvd / Peerless Ave: 
At 12:04 PM, an officer arrested a person on a non-citable warrant out of San Pablo PD.  The person was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility. 
 
Petty Theft- 10636 San Pablo Ave (24 Hour Fitness): 
At 12:34 AM, an officer reports the victim noticed the suspects exiting the women’s locker with her property. The victim attempted to retrieve her property, but the suspects ran to a vehicle in the parking lot and fled.
 
July 24th

Vehicle Theft – 3200 block of Santa Clara Ave:
At 9:23 AM, an officer reports the theft of a vehicle between 9:45-11:00 AM on 7/23.

Petty Theft – 500 block of Colusa Ave:
At 1:36 PM, an officer reports an unidentified suspect stole a package from an Amazon van while the driver was making a delivery.

Petty Theft – 1400 block of Club View Ct:
At 3:05 PM, an officer reports the theft of the front plate from a vehicle.

Petty Theft- 600 Block of Elm St:
At 1:22 AM, officers were dispatched to a theft that had just occurred. A sergeant located the suspect several blocks away in possession of the property. The property was returned to the victim. This case will be forwarded to the Contra Costa County District Attorney's office.

July 25th

Attempted Petty Theft – 900 block of Lexington Ave.
At 6:08AM the victim reports that the suspect entered their unlocked vehicle, rummaged through the interior but did not steal anything. 

Attempted Stolen Vehicle – 400 block of Everett St.
At 10:40AM the victim reports that one hour prior to calling police, a suspect shattered the rear window to their vehicle and damaged the steering column in an attempt to steal it

Assistance to Outside Agency – 6400 Cutting Blvd. (Del Norte BART station). 
At 10:15AM officers assisted BART PD with an auto burglary that just occurred in their parking lot.  An El Cerrito Police Officer detained the two suspects in the parking lot.  BART PD arrived and took over the investigation.  One of the suspects was armed with a loaded handgun. 
 
Armed Robbery/Possession of Drug Paraphernalia/Possession of a Controlled Substance/False Information to Officers/Arrest Warrant – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross).
At 3:25PM officers responded to Ross for an armed robbery. The two suspects stole items from the store and when confronted by employees, the suspects threatened them with a taser.  Both suspects were detained at the El Cerrito Plaza BART station and were positively identified by a Ross employee.  The stolen Ross merchandise was returned to the store.  The suspects were in possession of a meth pipe and crystal methamphetamine.  One of the suspects had a warrant out of San Francisco for burglary and the other suspect provided false identifying information to police officers.  The suspects were arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.    
 
Grand Theft – 10800 block San Pablo Ave.
At 12:44PM a suspect stole a portable generator from a City of El Cerrito work truck and fled in a silver SUV westbound on Potrero Ave. 

Violation of a Domestic Violence Restraining Order – 10900 San Pablo Ave.
At 4:43PM officers arrested the suspect after the victim, his ex-girlfriend, saw him lingering at a store she was at.  The victim has a restraining order against the suspect.   The victim was terrified and ran to the El Cerrito Police Department for safety.  The suspect was booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.

Commercial Burglary – 1600 Liberty St (Giovanni’s Grocery).
At 7:45PM, officers responded to a reported burglary.  Two suspects shattered the front door glass window and stole several items.  The suspect fled westbound on Potrero Ave prior to police arrival.

Battery / Possession of a Concealed Weapon / Attempting to Prevent a 911 call / Warrant – San Pablo Ave / Madison Ave.
At 10:26PM, officers responded to a battery between two subjects while inside a vehicle.  The suspect was also attempting to prevent the victim from calling 911.  During the investigation the suspect was also found to have an outstanding warrant for their arrest.  During the arrest, the suspect was found in possession of a dirk or dagger.  The suspect was arrested and transported to county jail.

Commercial Burglary – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness).
At 10:44PM, the victim reported his locker had been broken into and his backpack was stolen.
 
July 26th

Shoplifting – 1000 El Cerrito Plaza (Lucky)
At 11:10AM the suspect walked out of the store with a shopping cart full of unpaid items.  Store employees retrieved the cart full of merchandise and the suspect fled in their vehicle empty handed.  
 
July 27th

Assault/Battery – 600 block of Seaview Dr. -  
At 8:18AM the victim reported that he got into an argument with the suspect.  The suspect attempted to hit the victim and spat on the victim.  The suspect fled prior to police arrival.  

Petty Theft – San Mateo Ave at Central Ave.
At 8:58AM the victim reported that their front license plate was stolen from their vehicle last night.

Organized Retail Theft – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross)
At 12:42PM three suspects entered the store, grabbed over $600 worth of merchandise and fled the scene.

Petty Theft – 11450 San Pablo Ave (Safeway)
At 6:35PM, the victim had his bicycle stolen from in front of Safeway.

Shoplifting – 670 El Cerrito Plaza (CVS)
At 6:48PM, the suspect stole perfume from the store and fled the scene prior to police arrival.

July 28th

Stolen/Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Knott Ave at Key Blvd.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen last night while they left it parked near the Del Norte BART station.  The Richmond Police Department recovered the victim’s vehicle in their City when they found it abandoned in the middle of the street.  

Stolen Vehicle – Liberty St at Donal Ave.
The victim reported that their vehicle was stolen sometime last night from 7:30PM to 12PM today. 

Vandalism – 10070 San Pablo Ave (Rialto Theaters)
An unknown suspect sprayed painted graffiti on the exterior cinema signs and rooftop area.  The incident occurred from 7/26  at 11PM to 7/27 at 5PM.

Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 3251 Jacuzzi St.
At 7:12PM, a stolen vehicle was located unoccupied.
 
July 29th

Petty Theft – 7901 Cutting Blvd. (Berkely Country Club)
At 2:37PM the victim reports wallet was stolen from their unlocked vehicle. The suspect attempted to purchase items with the victim’s credit card in Berkeley. 

 Stolen Vehicle – 700 block of Colusa Ave.
At 6:44Am an unknown suspect stole the victim’s vehicle.

Commercial Burglary – 1600 Liberty St. Giovanni’s Market
At 9:26PM two suspects damaged the exterior front door lock, entered the business and stole cash from the registers.   The suspects fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.   

Stolen Vehicle – 900 block of Lexington Ave.
The victim’s vehicle was stolen from 10PM last night to 3AM this morning.
