On August 6, 2023, at approximately 5:50 PM, personnel from the Petaluma Police Department and Petaluma Fire Department were dispatched to the area of Lakeville Highway at S. McDowell Boulevard for a hit-and-run collision.
It was reported a SUV driven by Charles Piezzi (58, Petaluma Resident) had rear-ended one vehicle, which caused a chain reaction collision involving a total of four vehicles. As a result of the collision, one adult female was transported to Petaluma Valley Hospital for injuries, and one 12-year-old child was treated on scene for minor injuries.
Following the collision, Charles Piezzi drove his vehicle over a curb and parked it in a nearby parking lot before fleeing on foot into a nearby neighborhood. Thanks to alert witnesses, Piezzi was tracked to the backyard of a home in the 1500 block of Rio Nido Way where he was contacted by officers. While in the backyard Piezzi disregarded their commands to surrender and entered the unlocked backdoor of the residence in attempt to flee from officers. At some point during the contact, Piezzi jumped the rear fence and entered another nearby backyard in an apparent effort to evade officers. Officers gave chase and Piezzi was subsequently detained without further incident.
Upon contact, Piezzi showed objective signs of alcohol intoxication. A records check showed Piezzi was on DUI probation and his driver’s license was suspended as a result of his prior arrest. It was learned Piezzi had switched license plates with a different vehicle he owned. After the investigation, he was placed under arrest for the following charges:
