Sheriff’s Office deputies and investigators were called to a wooded area off Ramsey Road in Burton on Saturday, August 5, 2023, for a report of a vehicle that appeared to have been set on fire.

When deputies arrived, they discovered a severely burned car approximately 50 yards into the wood line that contained human remains. 

The vehicle was not readily identifiable at the time of the discovery due to the extent of damage caused by the fire.

An identification of the deceased has not been made at this time.  An autopsy will be performed today, August 7, 2023, to determine the cause and manner of death. 

Efforts will be made to identify the remains through forensic examinations.
