Wilmington Police announce partnership with West Side Grows Together for August 17 Community Resource Fair and Overdose Awareness Event:

The Wilmington Police Department is excited to announce a partnership with West Side Grows Together, as an expansion of next week's Community Resource Fair and Overdose Awareness Event.

Our program will be held outdoors on Thursday, August 17 from 4-6 p.m. in Judy Johnson Park (201 North Clayton Street).

In collaboration with public health partners – including the Delaware Office of Health Crisis Response and Delaware Community Response Teams – this month’s program will include an observance of International Overdose Awareness Day and will include additional partners who provide support to those affected by substance abuse and addiction.

West Side Grows Together will be joining us for this event, and will be celebrating new art that is being sprinkled throughout the park – including murals, banners and innovative plexi-glass installations. The colorful art was created by local artists Jarret "Posi" Harris and K.O. Simms as a collaborative project supported by the City of Wilmington, Representative Sherry Dorsey Walker, and the 7th District Neighborhood Planning Council to beautify the park and commemorate famed Negro League baseball player William "Judy" Johnson.

Launched last year as an expansion of past celebrations of National Night Out, the WPD Community Resource Fairs have been organized to invite members of the public to interact with police officers representing various assignments and positions at WPD, as well as a range of government, nonprofit and community service providers who serve the City of Wilmington and its residents. Programs this year have been held at the Police Athletic League of Wilmington, the William “Hicks” Anderson Community Center, the MSK Community Center, Helen Chambers Park, Cool Springs Park and Haynes Park.

This event is free and open to the public, and there will be food and plenty of public safety-related giveaways.

Pre-registration for partners/vendors is required, and is limited to government and nonprofit organizations providing free services to Wilmington residents.
