2022 Homicide Suspect Indicted by Grand Jury
INDIANAPOLIS- A grand jury indicted 32-year-old Dominique Bryant on August 2nd for the 2022 murder of J’ Mel Dowdell and he was arrested on August 4, 2023.
On Wednesday, March 30, 2022, just before 10:00 a.m., Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD) North District officers were dispatched to the 9400 block of Timber View Drive on a report of a person shot. Officers arrived and located an adult male, later identified as then 43-year-old J’ Mel Dowdell, who sustained injuries consistent with a gunshot wound(s) outside. Indianapolis Emergency Medical Services (IEMS) arrived and transported the Dowdell to an area hospital in critical condition. Shortly after arriving at the hospital, he was unfortunately pronounced deceased by medical staff.
IMPD Homicide detectives responded to the scene and continued the investigation. Detective spoke to a person of interest, later identified as Dominique Bryant. The Indianapolis-Marion County Forensic Services Agency responded to identify and collect potential forensic evidence. The Marion County Coroner's Office assisted and determined the cause of death to be homicide.
The investigation continued and this case was presented before a grand jury. On August 2, 2023, the grand jury indicted Bryant for his role in this homicide.
On August 4, 2023, the U.S. Marshals Task Force located Bryant in Anderson, Indiana and took him into custody without incident. Bryant is currently being held in the Madison County Jail.
