ORIGINAL MESSAGE:
Green Bay Police Respond to Bear in Tree on City’s west side;
Public Asked to Avoid the Area
The Green Bay Police Department (GBPD) is enforcing street closures in the Western Corridor neighborhood due to a bear on the City’s west side.
Officers were dispatched on Monday, August 7, 2023, around 5:40 a.m. to the area of Lore Lane for a bear that has climbed a tree.
As public safety is a priority, we ask that everyone except for residents who live in the immediate area, please avoid Western Avenue, S. Oneida Street, Lore Lane and Maryhill Drive where barricades are in place.
We also do NOT want to cause additional stress on the animal with a large gathering.
The GBPD will remain on scene with officers along with animal control and the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (DNR).
We will issue an update when streets reopen.
No additional information will be released at this time.
