REMINDER: Upcoming Planned Road Closures weekend of August 26-27 in the Niles area.
Please note the following road closures for each event and plan accordingly.
1. All-Day Closure of Niles Canyon Road (SR-84) Between Fremont and Sunol For Maintenance Work 7 a.m. – 3 p.m. August 26, 2023
Niles Canyon Road (State Route 84) will be closed between Fremont and Sunol for maintenance work from 7 a.m. to 3 p.m. August 26, 2023.
During the closure, crews will repair electrical lines, remove dirt and debris from right-hand shoulders, trim trees for road clearance and perform landscape work including weeding, mowing and clearing plugged drains.
California Highway Patrol officers and directional signage will be in place to guide motorists. Every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience, but motorists should expect delays. Caltrans thanks the public for your patience.
Detours
Traffic from southbound State Route 238 (Mission Fremont) Continue southbound SR-238 Mission:
- On-Ramp to northbound Interstate 680
- Continue on northbound Interstate 680
- Take Off-Ramp to eastbound SR-84 Calaveras to go to Sunol
- Eastbound SR-84/Paloma Way
- On-Ramp to southbound I-680
- Continue southbound I-680
- Off-Ramp to northbound SR-238 connector (Mission Blvd) off-ramp Continue North Bound Route 238
A message board will be positioned on the county road to notify community traffic of the lane closure operation, as follows:

The Niles Antique Faire and Flea Market will take place on Sunday, August 27 in the Niles District from 6:00 a.m. to 4:00 p.m.
Road Closure: The following roads will be closed on Sunday, August 27 from 12:00 a.m. to 6:00 p.m.:
- Niles Blvd., between “G” Street and “J” Street
- “G” “H” Street and “I” Street, between Second Street and Niles Blvd
- Iron Horse Lane between ”H” and “I” Street
- City parking lots next to Niles Plaza
As with all special events, Fremont Police Department asks attendees to please refrain from bringing backpacks and large bags into the area. All bags are subject to search. In addition, UAVs (drones) will not be permitted to fly over the event.
During all events, always be aware of your surroundings and report suspicious activities. We ask: If You See Something, Say Something. If you see suspicious behavior or situations, do not confront the individuals involved.
