Teen Arrested After Leading Deputies on a Pursuit in a Stolen Vehicle

LOCATION: 14300 Block of La Paz Drive, Victorville
SUSPECT(S): 14-Year-Old Male, Resident of Barstow
VICTIM(S): 30-Year-Old Female, Resident of Victorville
SUMMARY: On Tuesday, August 8, 2023, at approximately 3:34 a.m., Sheriff’s Dispatch received a call from a female reporting her white Kia Optima was just stolen from 14300 block of La Paz Drive in Victorville. Deputies from the Victorville Police Station were dispatched to the area and located the vehicle on La Paz Drive and Midway Street. Deputies initiated a high-risk traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield and led deputies on a vehicle pursuit.
During the pursuit, the 14-year-old male driver failed to stop at multiple red traffic lights, and drove at excessive speeds with a disregard for safety. The pursuit continued over six miles through Victorville until the vehicle stopped off the roadway of Amethyst Road. The driver and passenger exited the vehicle and fled on foot. The driver of the vehicle was detained and found to be on formal probation. He was booked into custody at the High Desert Juvenile Detention and Assessment Center for felony unlawful taking of a vehicle and evading an officer.
