Hydrant Flushing - August 9, 2023

The Borough is flushing hydrants and conducting preventive maintenance to the water system to improve service to our residents and to insure the delivery of the highest quality water.  This activity will occur during the day and overnight for the next 2-3 days.

What is Hydrant Flushing and Why is the Borough Doing it?

  • Hydrant Flushing is the quick release of water from fire hydrants and is vital to the general maintenance of the water distribution system.
  • Removes accumulated sediment from water mains in order to ensure high-quality drinking water.
  • Flushing hydrants is an important preventative maintenance activity that verifies proper operation of hydrants if the need for firefighting arises.

Your water service will not be interrupted. During this work, you may experience some discoloration of water. This is expected and a normal occurrence when existing water mains are disturbed. If you experience this, caution should be used in washing white clothes; however, the discoloration poses no health hazard and the water is safe for consumption.  Please allow the water to run from your tap for a minute or two until it clears.

If you have any questions, please call 201-794-5326 during normal working hours or 201-794-5374 at all other times.

The Borough apologizes for any inconvenience during this time and we thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
