ARRAIGNMENT/BAIL STATUS: Holt was processed at Amsterdam Police headquarters where he then was arraigned in Amsterdam City Court in front of the Honorable Judge Lisa W. Lorman and remanded to the custody of Montgomery County Corrections on $5,000 cash bail.
INCIDENT NARRATIVE: On April 18th 2023 at approximately 5:00 p.m. Amsterdam Police were notified of a burglary prior that occurred at a residence on Academy Street in the City. Amsterdam patrol officers responded where they determined that a male suspect had damaged the front door of a residence and subsequently forced entry into the residence stealing a quantity of money and personal items. Amsterdam detectives were requested by patrol officers to the scene to assist in the investigation. Through the use of surveillance footage and other evidence detectives were able to identify the suspect as Tayari A. Holt. On May 2nd 2023 a warrant was issued by Amsterdam City Court for the arrest of Holt in regards to the burglary. Amsterdam Detectives then requested the assistance of the U.S. Marshalls service for assistance in locating Mr. Holt as he was believed to have fled to the State of Connecticut.
On August 4th Amsterdam Police were notified that the U.S. Marshalls had located Holt in the State of Connecticut where he was taken into custody and held pending extradition. Members of Amsterdam Police department then responded to the State of Connecticut Superior Court in Rockville Connecticut where they took custody of Holt and transported him to Amsterdam Police headquarters for processing.
While there was probable cause for this arrest, all persons are presumed innocent until proven guilty beyond a reasonable doubt in a court of law.
