Moraga-Orinda Fire District to Host Regional Live Fire Wildland Training on Friday, August 11th.
The Moraga-Orinda Fire Protection District will be hosting a wildland fire training burn at the Painted Rock Land Trust and the Moraga Geologic Hazard Abatement District (GAHD). Wildland Firefighters from Contra Costa County Fire, Alameda County Fire, Oakland Fire, Hayward Fire, the East Bay Regional Park District, San Mateo County, Cal Fire, Central Santa Cruz Fire District, Santa Clara County Fire, Watsonville Fire, Scotts Valley Fire, Ben Lomond Fire, Livermore-Pleasanton Fire, Rodeo Hercules Fire and CAL OES will be participating. Organizers plan to burn up to 150 acres of grassland during this one-day event.
The training is being organized using the incident command system (ICS) and includes management staffing for fire operations, logistics, planning, public information and safety. Firefighters will be practicing wildland fire suppression skills including firing operations, progressive hose lays, mobile attack and the use of fire suppression hand tools. The burn will also remove hazardous fuels prior to the onset of critical wildfire conditions this Fall. The training will begin with an operational briefing in Moraga at 9:00 AM and should be concluded by 6:00 PM.
Residents in Moraga, Orinda, Lafayette and portions of Walnut Creek area likely to see or smell smoke. Residents near the training site are advised to close windows and doors to avoid smoke entering their homes.
