El Cerrito Police Department crime blotter from July 30th to August 5th
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito. It does not include all crimes. It also does not include non-criminal events such as missing persons, traffic collisions, non-criminal deaths, non-criminal disputes, nor many other police activities that do not result in arrest.
The following is a summary of criminal activity in El Cerrito from July 30th to August 5th.
July 30th
Evading Police / Tampering with a Vehicle / Resisting Arrest / Felon in Possession of a Firearm – San Pablo Avenue at Columbia Avenue:
At 8:48 AM the Flock Safety camera alerted officers of a vehicle entering the City of El Cerrito. The vehicle was wanted by Newark PD (Alameda County) for a robbery with a firearm that had occurred in their city. Officers drove to the area, but were not able to locate it.
At 9:49 AM the Flock camera hit on the same vehicle at San Pablo Avenue at Potrero Avenue. Officers learned that the Toyota matched the suspect vehicle from an attempted auto Burglary that had occurred minutes earlier in El Cerrito. Officers located the vehicle travelling on San Pablo Ave at Columbia Ave. Officers attempted a traffic stop on the vehicle on Central Ave at Yosemite Ave which failed to yield. Officers pursued the vehicle onto I-80 westbound where it was involved in a solo vehicle collision with the cement center median prior to the Gilman St. exit. After the collision, the driver fled on foot and was apprehended by an El Cerrito Police Department canine. A passenger was detained by officers in the vehicle. The suspect had in his possession property which appeared to be from the Newark robbery. A loaded firearm was located in the vehicle when it was searched by officers. Both suspects were transported to a hospital for medical clearance. The passenger of the vehicle was released to a parent at the El Cerrito Police Department. Newark PD came to the hospital and took custody of the suspect in their Robbery.
Tampering with a Vehicle – 2200 block Carquinez Avenue:
At 9:40 AM officers were dispatched to an auto burglary in progress. The victim provided officers with video footage of the suspect vehicle which appeared to be the vehicle that was wanted for the Newark Robbery. The suspect tampered with the rear driver side door of the victim’s vehicle trying to enter the vehicle but was scared off by the witness.
Robbery – 10170 San Pablo Avenue:
At 10:17 AM officers were dispatched to a fight call at the Popeyes Louisiana Kitchen. One minute later, Dispatch advised of a robbery occurring at the Tobacco Outlet which turned out to be the fight call. ECPD officers responded with RPD providing a cover officer. The suspect attempted to rob the store. The victim locked the suspect inside of the store in which the suspect began to smash out the window. A Richmond PD Officer arrived and detained the suspect. The suspect was medically cleared at a hospital, booked at ECPD, and transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Shoplifting – 11565 San Pablo Avenue (Walgreen’s):
At 2:01 PM a BART Police Officer was flagged down by the Walgreens security guard regarding a shoplifting that occurred. The BART PD Officer detained the suspect, who was on the platform at the Del Norte Bart Station, until ECPD officers arrived. An Officer accepted the citizen’s arrest of the suspect, and they were placed under arrest. The suspect was booked at ECPD and then released with a citation.
July 31st
Stolen Vehicle – 6600 block of Central Ave.
At 4:31 AM the victim’s vehicle was stolen from their carport. The victim was carjacked of his other vehicle last night in Oakland and his keys were stolen.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – 1000 block of Richmond St.
At 10:05 AM officers located a parked unoccupied stolen vehicle.
Robbery/Warrant Arrest – 11565 San Pablo Ave. (Walgreen’s)
At 10:43 AM the suspect stole items from the store and when security attempted to stop him, the suspect attempted to punch the security guard. The suspect threw a canned good at the security guard striking him. Officers detained the suspect in the Jack in the Box parking lot. The suspect was positively identified during an infield show up, placed under arrest and booked at the El Cerrito Police Department. The suspect had a warrant out of Oakland PD for robbery. The suspect was transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
Petty Theft – 6120 Potrero Ave. (Los Moles)
At 12:38 PM the suspect stole food from the counter and fled the restaurant on foot. The suspect was detained and positively identified during an infield show up. The suspect was arrested, booked at the El Cerrito Police Department and released on a citation.
August 1st
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – Carlson Blvd. at Lassen St. – At 12:08 PM an officer located a vehicle that was reported stolen to San Francisco PD on 7/29.
Fraud - 10422 San Pablo Ave (Bank of America) – At 1:09 PM an officer reports that the manger located skimming devices in the ATM machines.
Commercial Burglary – 10770 San Pablo Ave (Stiiizy).
At 3:38 AM officers responded to commercial burglary in progress. Two vehicles arrived with many suspects and smashed through the front doors with one of the vehicles. The suspects stole an unknown amount of product and fled the scene prior to police arrival.
August 2nd
Organized Retail Theft – 11319 San Pablo Ave. (Chevron) – At 9:32 AM an Officer reports that three suspects entered the store and stole merchandise. The suspects fled the business.
Commercial Burglary – 6060 Central Ave (Nations).
At 4:09 AM, officers responded to a commercial burglary at the business. One vehicle arrived after the business had closed and smashed the front door glass. The suspects stole several items but dropped them on the way out. The suspect fled in a vehicle prior to police arrival.
August 3rd
Auto Burglary – S. 53rd at Potrero Ave.
At 6:54 AM the victim reports that the front passenger side window to their vehicle was shattered and miscellaneous items were stolen from inside their vehicle.
Shoplifting – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross)
At 4:26 PM the suspect stole merchandise and fled on foot.
Arson / Warrant – 10636 San Pablo Ave (24hr Fitness).
At 5:33 AM officers were dispatched to a fire inside the gym. The suspect was upset over their shoes getting stolen and started a fire in the sauna. The suspect was arrested for arson and had a warrant for their arrest. The suspect was cited for the arson and transported to county jail on the warrant.
August 4th
Grand Theft – 6100 Barrett Ave:
At 7:04 AM an officer reports the theft of all rims and tires were stolen from the vehicle sometime between midnight and the time of call.
Vehicle Tampering – 308 Victoria St:
At 6:59 AM an officer reports an unidentified suspect punched the driver door lock and steering column in an apparent unsuccessful attempt to steal the vehicle sometime overnight.
Vehicle Theft – San Diego St / Carlson Blvd:
At 9:07 AM an officer reports the theft of a vehicle between 9:00 PM on 8/3 and 8:30 AM on 8/4/2023.
Vehicle Theft – 815 Park Wy:
At 11:41 AM, an officer reports the theft of a vehicle between 8:00 PM on 8/3 and 11:41 AM on 8/4/2023.
Recovered Stolen Vehicle – San Diego St / Carlson Blvd.
At 7:26 PM officers recovered a stolen vehicle reported stolen to Alameda County SO back in April.
Shooting into an Occupied Vehicle – Moeser Ln / Kearney St.
At 10:35 PM officers responded to a call of a man with a gun. After speaking with a witness, the suspect had fired 4 rounds at a vehicle driving westbound on Moeser Ln approaching San Pablo Ave. The victim vehicle fled the area and did not call to report the shooting. The suspect fled the area on foot prior to police arrival.
August 5th
Shoplift – 2000 El Cerrito Plaza (Ross):
At 1:21 PM, an unidentified suspect stole three pairs of shoes.
Robbery – 11344 San Pablo Avenue (Denny’s):
At 9:01 PM officers were dispatched to the report of a fight inside of Denny’s with one of the people armed with a machete. Officers arrived on scene and detained the subject who had been armed with the machete. During the investigation it was determined the suspect had stolen merchandise from the Chevron gas station across the street. When the suspect fled the Chevron employee ran after the suspect. When he caught up to him inside of Denny’s the suspect pulled out a machete in an effort to retain the stolen items. The stolen merchandise was recovered on the suspect and returned to the store. The suspect was placed under arrest, booked at ECPD, and then transported to the Martinez Detention Facility.
