Two Men Arrested for Possession of a Loaded Firearm During Traffic Stop
DATE/TIME: August 10, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m.
INCIDENT: Possession of a Loaded Firearm - School Grounds
LOCATION: Luckie Park / Two Mile Road, City of Twentynine Palms
SUSPECT(S): Javon Johnson, 26-year-old male resident of Joshua Tree
Austin Wagoner, 24-year-old male resident of Twentynine Palms
VICTIM(S): State of California
SUMMARY: On Thursday, August 10, 2023, at approximately 10:45 p.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff Station were assigned to a public gathering event at Luckie Park, in the City of Twentynine Palms. Deputies assigned to this event noticed a vehicle driving erraticly in the Luckie Park parking lot. The driving posed an immediate safety risk to pedestrians in the parking lot and spectators attending the event. Based on this, deputies conducted a traffic stop on the vehicle.
During the traffic stop, deputies contacted two occupants in the vehicle, identified as Javon Johnson and Austin Wagoner. Through further investigation, deputies found the suspects to be in possession of a loaded firearm, a ghost gun, with high capacity magazines.
Two public schools are located within close proximity of Luckie Park. Possession of a loaded firearm within 1,000 feet of school grounds is a direct violation of Penal Code 626.9. Johnson and Wagoner were arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail. Bail has been set in this matter at $50,000.
