INCIDENT: PC 2800.1 - Failure to Yield/Vehicle Pursuit
LOCATION: Twentynine Palms Highway / Sunburst Avenue
SUSPECT(S): Tommy Anthony Lawson II, 31-year-old resident of Twentynine Palms

SUMMARY: On Thursday, August 10, 2023, at approximately 12:40 a.m., deputies from the Morongo Basin Sheriff's Station observed a Nissan Maxima drive east on Twentynine Palms Highway (SR-62) near El Reposo Circuit in Joshua Tree. The vehicle did not have any lights illuminated during night time conditions. Deputies attempted a traffic stop near the intersection of SR-62 and Sunburst Avenue. The driver, Tommy Anthony Lawson II, failed to yield at a traffic stop and a pursuit ensued.
Deputies pursued Lawson II eastbound on SR-62. He turned onto White Feather Road and into the parking lot of Hi-Desert Medical Center where the pursuit terminated. Lawson II was immediately detained by responding deputies.
Lawson II was arrested and booked at the Morongo Basin Jail for CVC 2800.1(a), Evading a Peace Officer in a Vehicle, and CVC 12500(a), Driving without a Valid Driver's License. No property damage or injuries to the suspect or members of the community occurred as a result of the vehicle pursuit.
