Occurred Date :          August 13, 2023
Occurred Time:           2:07 AM
Location:                     Arroyo Center
Suspect:                      Yony Rodas, 23-year-old Petaluma Resident

Incident Summary

On Sunday, August 13, 2023, at approximately 2:07 AM, the Petaluma Police Dispatch Center received a 911 call from an area resident, who reported hearing approximately three gunshots followed by breaking glass, coming from the area of the Arroyo Center.

Several Petaluma Police officers responded to the area and arrived within minutes of the initial 911 call. Officers immediately located a broken window to a business within the Arroyo Center. Officers began making announcements for anyone inside the business to exit. Shortly after officers began making announcements, Yony Rodas exited through the front door of the business. Officers immediately began giving Rodas commands to show them his hands and to surrender. Rodas ignored the officer’s commands and fled on foot through the Arroyo Center.

Officers, fearing Rodas was armed with a firearm as the initial 911 caller stated they had heard gunshots, began chasing Rodas. As Rodas ran through the Arroyo Center, toward a residential neighborhood, officers became fearful he would enter the neighborhood while potentially armed. An officer who was chasing Rodas deployed his taser, which struck Rodas and immediately ended the foot pursuit. Officers took Rodas into custody without further incident.

After Rodas was taken into custody, officers conducted a search of his person and his belongings. Officers recovered several burglary tools but did not locate a firearm. Officers also conducted a search of the area and the business which Rodas had burglarized and were not able to locate any evidence which indicated a firearm was used.

Rodas was later booked at the Sonoma County Jail for Burglary, Resisting Arrest and Possession of Burglary Tools.

The Petaluma Police Department would like to thank the vigilant residents in the area that reported the suspicious activity they were hearing, which ultimately led to the arrest of Rodas.
