Advisory

First Day of the School Year, Tuesday, August 15th.  Noticeable increase in traffic around schools - slow down - be aware!

First Day of the School Year, Tuesday, August 15th.  There will be a noticeable increase in traffic around schools, slow down, put your phones down and be alert.     Lafayette will be full of children excited to see their friends, and parents who are juggling school drop offs with work, life, and everything.

The Slow Down Lafayette Team needs your help in keeping our children safe.

Remember:
• Give a little extra space between your car and kids walking to school. They are excited to see their friends and may forget to look for traffic, and you will want all the space you can have if they step into the road.
• Take extra time to get through town. Rushing only increases the risk of a crash.
• Concentrate on what is going on outside your car. The morning drop off can be hectic inside the car, but outside is where the real danger lies.
• Slow down: hitting a pedestrian at 35 mph instead of 25 mph more than doubles the chance they won’t survive.

Lafayette Police will be out as well, working with you to keep our children safe.

We are all in this together.
